What Parents Need to Know About Child Development

During this informative, one hour workshop parents will learn about human development as it relates to their children's emotions, physical behavior, and social interactions. Robin and Karen will teach parents to customize their discipline strategies based upon this developmental framework, thus minimizing power struggles, tantrums, and emotional outbursts. For parents of children up to age six.
Parents will learn:
Which developmental tasks your child is learning to master at each age
Typical styles of play for each developmental stage
The developmental basis for your child's most challenging behavior and what to do about it
The influence of temperament on the process of development

Tools for Potty Training

This workshop will teach you how to avoid power struggles and make this transition a smooth one for parent and child. You'll be able to identify the optimal time to begin potty training. You will also learn to create a positive environment that encourages your child's emerging autonomy while supporting his or her self-confidence and resourcefulness.
Parents will learn:
-parent's role vs. child's role
-physical and emotional signs of readiness
-concrete tips on getting started
-practical suggestions you may have not thought of to make the process easier

Siblings and Playmates: Helping Children Get Along

We teach child development, temperament and current brain research, as well other factors that motivate behavior. Equipped with this information, as well as our versatile and comprehensive tool kit, parents will be able to:
Correct unwanted behaviors at the root cause to avoid the need for repetitive consequences.
Intervene quickly and effectively to minimize tantrums and other emotional outbursts.
Minimize and quickly defuse power struggles.
Teach responsible, developmentally appropriate problem solving strategies.
Create a positive relationship that celebrates their child’s unique and emerging personality while supporting self-confidence and resourcefulness.

Inspiring Connections is the teaching partnership of Robin Goldstein-Lincoln, MA LPC and Karen Alonge.
About Robin:
I began my career teaching high school while earning my M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction in 1995. While earning my M.A. in Counseling Psychology, I worked as a high school counselor. Upon graduating in 1997, I became a middle school counselor, and later, a staff psychotherapist at a community agency in New York.
More recently, I have been working in private practice as a psychotherapist and parent educator and consultant in Boulder.
My husband and I are the proud parents of a fiery nine year old who serves as my greatest teacher and student. Every tool in our Inspiring Connections parenting classes has been kid tested and approved.
In my free time, I enjoy yoga, hiking, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.

Since earning my B.A. in Communicative Disorders and Psychology, I’ve owned and operated several successful small businesses, including a home day care where I took care of 4 babies under the age of 18 months (yep, all at the same time), and a postpartum care service. In 2003, I became an intuitive life coach and parenting consultant after graduating from an extensive training program at Coach University.
My two fantastic kids (I’m so objective …) were both born at home — my son proudly serves in the US Coast Guard, and my daughter is in high school.
